Warwick Town Christmas Lunch
58 people sat down to enjoy a traditional Christmas Lunch followed by entertainment at The Courthouse on Jury Street. The event was made possible by a team of 19 volunteers who devoted their Christmas Day to ensuring no one had to spend Christmas alone this year.
The initiative was overwhelmed with people offering to volunteer and turned down another 35 people who contacted offering their help. They also had another 2 ladies arrive “on-spec” and offer to help on the day and the team felt it was heart-warming to know that so many people in the community wanted to help make a difference.
The food which wasn’t served went to LWS Night Shelter where another 34 homeless people enjoyed a hot meal on Christmas night. The team felt this was somewhat bitter-sweet and surprising that so many people were in need of LWS services at Christmas.
Warwick Town Christmas Lunch has received nothing but great feedback with many people already asking if it will be done again in 2018. This includes some who didn’t come in 2017 and were waiting to see if it was a success before signing up! The team are 99% sure it will go ahead this year.
Terry Morris lead coordinator said:
"We kept a track of how those who registered in 2017 heard about the lunch and I’m delighted to share that the largest single “channel” was via the Churches. Thank you for helping us reach those who came along. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of sponsors, volunteers and the community. However, the event wouldn’t have been a success without all of the wonderful guests who joined us on the day! We hope that you’ll be happy to help us spread the word again as we get closer to Christmas 2018."
